'Blue Velvet' looks and sounds great on Blu-ray, and is still divisive

Beat extra: Fifty minutes of recently discovered lost footage (in HD)

IF YOU DIDN’T KNOW David Lynch was an talented painter before he made movies, the opening shot of his controversial psycho-thriller would give his training away.

The white picket fence, red roses and cloudless vulgar sky are perfectly framed and heavily saturated. The impression is surreal – fitting, since Lynch jettisons other picture-postcard illusions in favor of the sadistic, voyeuristic side of small-town America.

And those dark corners have never looked superiority. The color is exceptional, detail (other than a few soft edges) is sharp and the shadows are deep and distinct. Crystalline picture. Murky story. You gotta love it.

Or maybe not. “Pornographic Velvet” divided audiences in 1986, and it will again. Kyle MacLachlan plays Jeffrey Beaumont, whose discovery of a human ear in an overgrown field leads him far from his hometown’s manicured lawns. He’s soon drawn – and not unwillingly – into the twisted orbit of a tortured chantreuse (Isabella Rossellini) and a drug-addled sadist (Dennis Hopper).

why doesnt my tv show the blu ray movie in full screen?
[2009-05-21 14:04:56]

most of the movies i get on blu ray,lyk pirates of carribean and american psycho cant be seen full screen on my 1080p hdtv, which has 16:9 face ratio.it still shows the black lines down and top of screen.what kind of movie face ratio do v need to have

Most movies are shot in narrower exposure ratios than 16:9, which is why you get the letterboxing even on a widescreen TV. You can use the zoom feature on your TV to fill the screen, but you will loose a little bit of the picture on the sides.

Why is it taking so long for the classic films to reach Blu-Ray DVD ?
[2009-10-26 09:04:09]

Why is there such a hold up for classic films like "The Exorcist",The Birds,Psycho,Ben Hur,Midnight Cowboy, etc................

I realize Star Wars will not be on Blu-Ray in the foreseable future but the current releases are mid

You got it. It's expensive to port an old film to Blu-ray, and the prospective sales have to justify the cost and effort. I expect studios analyze where they think the market will be and put their efforts there. The reality is that older films on DVD

REVIEW: Lethal Weapon Collection (Blu-ray)
REVIEW: Lethal Weapon Collection (Blu-ray) The LETHAL WEAPON franchise has long been high on the “when are they coming out on Blu-ray” list for many film fans. Yes, WEAPONS 1 and 2 were released on the format in 2006, but the transfers were so horrible that fans that weren't even particularly

Blu-Ray Review: The Aggression Scale
That boss is played by “Twin Peaks” star Ray Wise. His lead flunky is played by “Twin Peaks” star Dana Ashbrook. Somehow, director Stephen C. Miller resisted the urge to reference the David Lynch series, making the probable coincidence easy to digest.

Blu-ray Review: Madonna's 'WE' Fails to Explore Its Alleged Subject
WE was released on Blu-ray and DVD on May 1, 2012. It must be said that even in a film as bad as this, Cornish proves to be one of the most riveting actresses of her generation. I cared about her enough to wish she was inhabiting a role worthy of her
