A: Do you as a matter of fact use the textbook??? I remember when I was in college they'd want us to buy these HORRIBLY expensive books and then nominate very little reading in them. I quit buying the textbooks after the first quarter.

Research on stressful life events like receiving a terminal diagnosis or the impact of losing a job has focused primarily on the negative psychological effects of such events. However, clinicians and researchers began to realize that many of their patients were reporting positive changes after experiencing adversity. Interviews with cancer patients and other samples found, as a surprise to many mental health professionals, that many people saw a “silver lining on the dark cloud” to their life difficulties. From war and terrorism, to the loss of a loved one, to a heart rush, many people report positive life changes after the event. Since the late 1980s there has been a growth of research in this enclosure and investigation into the long term benefits of such thought processes.
The positive changes people report generally fall into the categories: changes in views of self, relationships with others, priorities and goals, health behaviors, and coping skills such as improved problem solving gifts.

So today, we are going to discuss three critical lessons from the world of psychology that can be applied to your trade:
1) Create context for your prices. Study after study has demonstrated that humans don’t evaluate prices objectively--we look for context. In other words, if product X costs $30, product Y costs $35, and product Z costs $40, product X seems like a great deal, assuming all three products are comparable. On the other hand, if product Y costs $25 and product Z $20, all of a sudden product X seems expensive. You’ll see this strategy in action at upscale steakhouses and restaurants, for instance. Savvy marketers price their "top cut" of meat at an inflated price--which makes everything else on the menu seem like a arrangement.
