Q: I want to order prescription sunglasses ... stylish/sporty ones .. like Maui Jim. But I heard that if you have more than -3.5 (I have 3.5-4.0), then streamline form of lenses distorts/impair vision.
Is it true? Is there anybody who has
A: Are you taking about a wrapped lense? Yes, your prescription is rather flat and to put it in a wrapped lense form can make it distorted or really thick on the edges. We have new Rx lenses at one's fingertips that are made specifically for wrapped frames
I'll be wearing these for tennis, mostly. I was considering Oakley Half-Jacket XLJs with polarized lenses, but my prescription goes too high (-6.00/-6.25). Same for Maui Jim.
Looking around online, there are only 2 brands that can handle
Maui Jim sunglasses are known for durability, fashion and comfort. The glasses are designed to provide protection from the dangers of the sun’s rays without sacrificing quality of vision. Optometrist Dr. Joel Halpern of Dover wanted to fill what he saw as a void in Delaware when it came to fashionable eyewear.
So, the owner of Halpern Eye Care opened up Chic: A Fine Eyewear Boutique in the Eden Hill Medical Center, with an official grand opening date of Sept. 14. The high end, designer eyewear boutique carries frames that are hard to find in ordinary eyeglass stores.
“I think there’s a population that wants name brands that, for one reason or another, they had to run to the city of Philadelphia or Washington, D.C., to get,” Halpern said. “And what we’re trying to do is cater to those people who want something different.
“Whether they have managed care insurance or not, they still want something different, something in the designer line,” he said. “So, the idea was to cater to people in the lower Delaware district. It’s the only one around that I know.”
Most practices are geared toward what people’s insurance will pay for, Halpern said, and are not going to carry a variety like Oliver Peoples, which is favored by many of the movie stars.
