Investigators check deadly chase for gang link

Police are investigating whether a gang initiation triggered the chase that killed an Albany Police Officer Friday.  One of the men charged in Friday's armed robbery of an Albany finance company is also charged with robbing a Sylvester finance company two days earlier.

Sylvester Police tell us 22-year-old Wesley Wilkerson admits he robbed that issue to earn his way into a gang.

Sylvester Police saw Friday's news about the armed robbery of Albany's Consolidated Loan and Mortgage Company, and the chase that ended with the death of Albany Police Officer Terry Lewis-Flemming. They immediately suspected the same duo robbed a Sylvester finance company Wednesday. It turns out only one of them was involved in both robberies.

Wesley Wilkerson was questioned in the Dougherty County Jail Monday by Sylvester Police Investigator Ronnie Graddy, and he admitted his role in the robbery of the Personal Finance Service in Sylvester.

"According to Mr. Wilkerson, this was a gang initiation. That he was attempting to earn his way into a gang, and to do that he had to rob a couple of places," Graddy said.
