The details of Janous' stint as federal fugitive are laid out in a memorandum Confederate with U.S. Attorney Frank Dale filed in the run-up to her sentencing later this month in U.S. District Court. That memorandum also reveals her April 18 escape from electronic monitoring wasn't her first bid to flee from justice.
Janous pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court in February to wire fraud and money laundering for an embezzling scheme that spanned years. It was unearthed in 2010 via an audit by Scancarbon, a wholesaler of coal, ore and other minerals with annual sales of $10 million that was founded in Knoxville but now is Norwegian-owed.
