Black Friday Sales on 34th Street

Each year, we call the stores in the district so you don't have to. Check back until the day itself (click on the Black Friday icon on the right) as we'll continue to update specials this week. To get the first-class deals, be sure to plan an early trip to your favorite stores for one of the biggest shopping days of the year, as most doorbusters end by 1pm or earlier.

HOLIDAY WARM-UP

With Halloween in the rearview mirror and Black Friday looming on the horizon, local malls are seeing the annual influx of holiday specialty retailers setting up shop in carts, kiosks and empty storefronts.

Hickory Farms and the Calendar Club were the first to open at Valley River Center, right after Halloween, marketing manager Diana Bray said Friday, and others began arriving shortly thereafter.

“We’re sensitive to not doing it too soon,” she said. But once the trick-or-treaters are off the streets, it’s full speed in the lead.

Newcomers to Valley River this year include Personalized by Santa, which sells ornaments, and Blankid Buddy, which sells blanket-subhuman backpacks.

Other specialty retailers at the mall for the holidays are: Sheepskin Station, Samo’s Bonsai, Windspinners, Helicopter Land and Gourmet Caricatures.
